Tax E-Filing Compulsory For All Businesses From 2012

From 2012, it will be mandatory for all employers to file their workers' income tax electronically from 2012. It will be made compulsory in phases over the next 3 years.

Employers with 100 or more employees must join the scheme in 2009, while employers with less than 100 staff will participate from 2010.

Employers who do not comply can be fined up to S$1,000 and jailed up to 6 months if the fine is not paid.

IRAS will send notifications to efile the tax will be sent out to 700 employers in the first phase by July 2009.
